The 2018 Sonia Kovalevsky Mathematics Day for Women is planned for February 10, 2018 at Pomona College in Claremont, CA.
Do you know of any talented young women who enjoy math?
We are interested in inviting some bright young minds to the Pomona College campus on Saturday, February 10th, 2018, for our first annual Sonia Kovalevsky Mathematics Day. This event will be a collaboration between Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly Pomona, and Pomona College.
In 2018 the event will be held at Pomona College but in future years this event will travel between the three institutions; Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly Pomona, and Pomona College.
2018 Sonia Kovalevasky Day
The 2018 event is the brainchild of Dr. Roberto Soto and Dr. Omayra Ortega when at the monthly convening of MESCAL Dr. Soto mentioned that he helped to organize a Sonia Kovalevsky Day at the University of Iowa. They soon realized that this annual event at the Univeristy of Iowa was actually started in 2006 by Dr. Ortega as a graduate student! It's a small world! Since they are both now working at institutions in southern California, they decided to collaborate on an SK Day for 2018.
In 2018 the event will be held at Pomona College but in future years this event will travel between the three institutions; Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly Pomona, and Pomona College.
